The start of fall signifies letting go of the exterior or unwanted things, and turning inward. A time to slow down in a way and cozy our homes in preparation for winter. Transitioning your decor can help invite those feelings of fall and letting go.
While I love all of the pretty fall decor you see in all of the stores right now, it can be overwhelming and kind of counter intuitive to the idea of slowing down and letting go to be bombarded with so much stuff. I’ve gathered up a few ideas to decorate your home for fall that are simple and easy, and cheap too!
Use nature! Go outside with a pair of clippers and snip some branches off the trees or bushes that are turning gold or pick up a pile of fallen leaves. You can simply place these in a vase for an added touch of fall beauty around your home. If you already have a vase, this is absolutely free! If you don’t, those are one thing I would reccommend getting. You can do this all year long – grab flowers and branches from outside – and have instant and beautiful decor. Here’s a few beautiful ideas for vases.
Make a wreath. You can also use your clippings to make a beautiful wreath. And I promise it’s not that hard! You just need clippings, a wreath form like this or this hoop for an even simpler wreath, and wire. You simply secure the clippings to the wreath form with pieces of wire. Just make sure to avoid perfection!

A simple Fall porch. We’ve all seen the over the top pumpkin filled fall porches all over Pinterest and Instagram, and while I always swoon over these, you can also create a beautiful fall porch with way less! Use the wreath you made or get one you can use year after year, a few pumpkins and some mums.
Candles. Beautiful candles can have a huge cozy effect for little effort and cost. For optimal bang for your buck, find a beautiful warm toned jar. And these are something you CAN sprinkle all over your house. Any room or vignette can benefit from a candle.
Create a fall vignette. A group of items gathered together has more impact than when they are spread out. Fill a tray will a vase filled with fall branches or grasses, a candle, and a pumpkin. Use this for island decor in your kitchen or your coffee table or entry table.
This one incorporates the vase with branches, a candle, and just a few little pumpkins! Simple but still feels so festive!
The addition of a small throw blanket or scarf adds another layer of texture. Check the Target Dollar Spot or the dollar store for these!
I love the simplicity of placing a few vases filled with grasses in a grouping!
A vase of mums and a couple of pumpkins make the perfect addition to any table!
Add cozy. This is the time to break out the cozy throw blankets and pillows. Think softness, warmth, and texture. The simple addition of a cozy blanket to your sofa can make a huge difference!
You don’t have to spend a fortune buying all of the Target or Michael’s fall decor sections to create a beautiful home that feels like fall!
