I grew up in Phoenix, Arizona. It might get to 32 degrees for like an hour a couple of times a year. And I think it snowed there twice in the 22 years I lived there. Then we moved to Albuquerque where it did get cold, and it did snow a few times a year. Fast forward to now living in Denver where we had snow 3 times in one week. And there was still snow on the ground from the last time it snowed 2 weeks prior. And it was like 10 degrees and felt like 1 degree.
It would be easier when it’s this cold and snowy to just stay indoors and stay warm. I’m not exactly a fan of the cold. But then what? There is only so much we can do inside and plus the outdoor air is so good for us! There’s a book on my list for next year called There’s no Such Thing as Bad Weather. I’ve read summaries and bits and pieces of it, and I couldn’t agree more now. Getting outside and putting all of the screens downs and getting fresh air and nature and creative free play are all such great things for us and our kids!
When you bundle up and wear the right clothes, you don’t feel cold! I used to try and just throw on a jacket and go, and I would be freezing and miserable. Now I have zero shame and all the smarts.

I will wear my warm leggings, snow boarding pants( similar here), a shirt, a sweatshirt, my long puffer jacket, thick socks (some here), a scarf, and a hat and my snow boarding gloves. And then my huge bulky snow boots. I probably look ridiculous, but I stay warm and that’s all that matters.
We are able to go outside and have fun playing in the snow! Or just to play outside daily when it’s cold. We don’t stay out as long, but we usually still get outside every day!

The boys wear their regular clothes, snow bibs, big jackets, gloves, hats, and snow boots. They aren’t as big of babies as I am, but I still dress them warm to get outside and play.
We got this jacket for Elijah this year and have loved it. It’s 2 jackets that you can layer together (and they attach to each other!) or wear separately, and he has gotten so much use out of both of them!
For days when there isn’t snow on the ground, we got Elijah these shoes which have extra tread on the bottom and are lined all the way through to keep his feet warm. Isaiah has these shoes which have a rubber sole and are also lined all the way through.
Basically, layer up and get outside! The fresh air is so good for us, and as hard as it is for this indoorsy girl to get outside in it, layering and dressing warm has helped me get outside more often!
